Chapter One Introduction


1.1 Research Background

作为一种认知活动和语言技能,听力理解的语言学习和生活的意义不容忽视。通常有两种系统,几乎在世界上的每一种语言:thespeaking系统和书写系统。库克指出,语言的主要属性之一是,“语言是声乐”(李盐阜,1997:40)。理解的方法,认为“教学学习者说话之前,教师应花一段时间训练他们听...当学习者的听力水平得到提高,将他们的表达水平相应提高,自然(理查兹,普拉特1998:80)。因此,我们可以看到提高英语专业学生听力的综合能力,以提高他们的英语语言能力十分必要。As a cognitive activity and language skill, the significance of listeningcomprehension in language learning and daily life cannot be neglected.There are generally two systems of almost every language in the world: thespeaking system and the writing system. Cook has pointed out that one of the mainattributes of language is that “language is vocal” (Li Yanfu, 1997: 40).Comprehension approach believes that “Before teaching learners speak, teachersshould spend a period of time training them to listen…… When the learners’ listeningcomprehension level gets improved, their expressive level will be enhancedaccordingly and naturally (Richards, Platt 1998:80). So we can see the great necessityof improving English majors’ listening comprehensive ability in order to enhancetheir English language ability.
高校英语专业英语教学大纲由教育部颁布2000年1月说:高校需要培养跨学科的英语人才,具有扎实的英语语言基础,较宽范围的知识和综合能力,笔译或口译,老师或工作教授,管理人员和研究人员等领域的外交,教育,经济,贸易,文化,科学技术,军事领域,并很快。在教学大纲,大一的要求是,以了解教师在课堂教学内容的解释说,以相对缓慢的速度了解日常会话。第二级的要求是让学生掌握一个讲座的总体思路,理解主要内容,并区分母语的态度和说话的语气。四年级的教学目的是让学生了解母语的关于社会和日常生活中的对话,了解与中等水平的听力材料,掌握主要的想法,并推断出说话者的态度,情感和说话的真实意图。English Teaching Syllabus for College English Majors promulgated by theMinistry of Education in January of 2000says: colleges and universities need tocultivate inter-disciplinary English talents with solid English language basis, widerange of knowledge and comprehensive ability working as translators or interpreters,teachers or professors, managers and researchers in such fields as foreign affairs,education, economy and trade, culture, Science and technology, military area and soon. In the syllabus, the requirement for freshman is to understand what teachers say inclass about the explanation of the teaching content; to understand the dailyconversation with relatively slow speed. The second grade of requirement is to enablestudents to grasp the general idea of a lecture, understand the main content anddifferentiate the native speakers’ attitude and tone of speaking. The fourth grade ofteaching aim is to make students understand the native speakers’ dialogue about socialand daily life; to understand the listening materials with medium level and grasp themain idea and infer the speaker’s attitude, emotion and real intention of speaking. The sixth grade of requirement requires students to understand the listening materials withhigh level and infer the speaker’s attitude, emotion and real intention of speaking.Obviously this newly issued document caters for the tendency of the development ofthe society. It attaches the importance to listening comprehension in communication.Meanwhile, it emphasizes the importance of grasping the main idea and inference ofspeaker’s real intention .But according to the researchers’ survey, most students thinktheir listening comprehension competence is poor and they cannot concentrate on thematerial on the whole while they are doing listening exercises.
