摘要:Students are the subjects of teaching in the relation between teaching and learning. All ofthe fruitful teaching has close students' active involvement. For this part,whether the students have strong learning motivation is the premise to carry out variousteaching activities.
Chapter 1 Introduction
1.1 Research Objective
This research is meant to explore the present situation and characteristics of Englishlearning motivation of non-English major students in higher vocational colleges, by means ofquestionnaire survey, interviews and observations. In addition, some teaching strategies onhow to train and stimulate English learning motivation of higher vocational students will beanalyzed in order to not only increase students’ interests in English learning but also improvetheir practical English ability. To a certain extent, the students from higher vocational colleges are different from thosein general colleges and universities in many aspects concerning learning environment andgoals, the students’ previous learning experience and so on. Owing to the lack of detailedinvestigation on the characteristics of the students from higher vocational colleges and deepstudy of the English teaching in higher vocational colleges. English leaching is not effectiveand far from satisfying in most of the higher vocational colleges. Thus, it is necessary to explore the characteristics of L2 learning motivation for the students from higher vocationalcolleges and find out the proper teaching strategies.

1.2 Significance of research
Students are the subjects of teaching in the relation between teaching and learning. All ofthe fruitful teaching has close rdationshi students' active involvement. For this part,whether the students have strong learning motivation is the premise to carry out variousteaching activities. On the other hand, teaching is an interaction process between teachers andstudents. Students' active involvement can stimulate teachers" enthusiasm and then improveteaching effects. Thus,the levels of students' learning motivation have been closely relatedwith students’ scores and teaching effects. It is greatly beneficial in increasing students’practical English ability and improving teaching quality to analyze the formation anddevelopment of learning motivation.At present, there are mainly two trends in analyzing L2 learning motivation. One is fromthe theoretical view to discuss the component of motivation and the theoretical framework isproposed. And the other is to discuss the inner structure of L2 learning motivation based onsome actual cases.There are many researches on L2 learning motivation in China recently, while most of thesubjects in previous researches are students from general colleges and universities. However,in recent years, with the development of our economy and higher education, the highervocational colleges have developed so quickly and become one of the important parts inhigher education in China. Few researches have been conducted on L2 learning motivation forstudents from higher vocational colleges.
