1. Introduction
1.1 Research Background
Since the new curriculum standards of basic
Education has been formulated invarious disciplines, the primary and middle school started to implement educationalreform in China. It advocates the new concept of teaching, the involvement of newteaching modes and the reform of teaching methods. The new curriculum structures,curriculum function, curriculum evaluation and the change of curriculum contents, whichputs forward the new requirements to primary and secondary school teachers’ teachingknowledge and teaching basic skills. Normal colleges are the main places for cultivatingprimary and secondary school teachers, which aim is to adapt the requirements ofeducational reform in the new period. However, the survey found that the pedagogicaleducation has influenced by the thought of focusing on theory and ignoring in practice, sothat some problems exist in pre-service English teachers’ teaching practice, such aslacking understanding of the first-line teaching actual situation; before teaching, lowability of analyzing, understanding and handling instructional materials and largelydepend on available teaching reference materials; Teaching in class only focus on thefinished situation of lesson plans rather than pay attention to solving and guiding students’generative problems; after teaching, teachers have no consciousness to reflect on theclassroom teaching process and can’t timely evaluate teaching efficiency and students’learning effect. These problems reveal that pre-service English teachers do badperformance in teaching practice ability. Therefore, normal colleges should be in urgentneed of cultivating and improving pre-service English teachers’ teaching practice ability.On December 30, 2011, the state council carried out a special inquiry onimplementing the National
Outline for Medium- and Long-Term Educational Reform andDevelopment (2010-2020) in the great hall of the people. Du Yubo, a deputy minister ofeducation said: “training practice ability is the weakest link in the talent cultivation, and isan entry and breakthrough point to improve the quality of talent cultivation in future; formany years, all levels of education administration departments and all kinds of schools at different levels have made some positive explorations and have accumulated some goodexperience; but under the condition of socialist market economy, how to promote andimplement the educational work is still needs to further study”. It can be seen that theministry of education pays more attention to cultivating talents’ practice ability in highereducation. The main goal of normal colleges is to cultivate excellent teachers, whichmost important task is to cultivate pre-service English teachers’ teaching practice ability.The transformation of training pre-service English teachers has been actively carried out bynormal colleges with the new curriculum reform in basic education. However, after a series ofreforms, how about the status of pre-service teacher’ teaching practical ability? Whether thecultivating has some problems? How to improve? All these problems are worth furtherstudying and discussing.
