摘要:本文是英语教学论文,本研究采取定性和定量相结合的研究方法。首先,通过抽样调查,本研究揭示了现有汉英词典在释义和提供使用信息等方面的不足。其次,通过中介语语料库,本研究分析了中国英语学习者在动词的使用方面常见的错误并分析了这些错误的特点。
CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of the Present Study
Domestic-oriented Chinese-English dictionaries (CEDs) are important tools for Chinese EFL learners to write English articles or do Chinese-English translation. However, a majority of users are not satisfied with the current CEDs (Cui Yumei 2006; Hu Wenfei 2013). The reason is that current CEDs, heavily influenced by the traditional view that the essence of bilingual dictionaries is to seek equivalents in target languages (Zgusta 1971: 319; Svensén 2009: 257; Al-Kasimi 1983: 63; Li Ergang 2006; Li Ming and Zhou Jinghua 2002; Li Kai 1990), only list several synonymous equivalents, without any further information for usage and semantic discrimination, which may make users feel puzzled and choose a wrong equivalent. Another reason is that current CEDs are not users-oriented. Most of the current CEDs claim that they are both domestic-oriented and foreign-oriented. However, domestic-oriented CEDs aim to help Chinese EFL learners improve their English proficiency while foreign-oriented CEDs aim to help foreigners learn Chinese. In other words, they have different aims and focus. Domestic-oriented CEDs should put their emphasis on English while foreign-oriented CEDs on Chinese. For domestic-oriented CEDs, usage information and semantic discrimination should be provided for English equivalents instead of Chinese headwords. Up till now, some researches on how to improve current CEDs have been conducted, mainly focusing on the conceptual equivalence between the source language and the target language. Even though they are enlightening, there are still some deficiencies: The knowledge about the essence of CEDs’ definition is insufficient. Some researches were still limited to the traditional equivalence view. They regarded conceptual equivalence between the source language and the target language as the ultimate aim of CEDs while ignoring the multi dimensions of definitions.
