摘要:本文是英语文学论文,本研究表明,布迪厄社会学视角下的翻译社会学将冰心的《印度童话集》翻译活动置于社会的大背景下进行宏观分析,同时结合社会大环境对译者产生的微观影响对翻译过程进行分析,点面结合,对于冰心《印度童话集》的翻译活动具有很强的解释力。
Chapter OneIntroduction
1.1 Research Background
Studies on the translation of children’s literature did not attract enough attentionbecause of children’s literature’s being neglected previously. (Shou, 2008). However,with children’s being an independent and integrated man, children’s literature hasattracted more attention in the world. Correspondingly, studies on the translation ofchildren’s literature have increased, extending both to textual and non-textual factorresearches. As for the former, it has mainly focused on how to translate puns or nouns orsome language phenomena in the texts; for the latter, readers, translators as well aseconomic, political and cultural factors in the translation of children’s literature havebeen researched. In addition, prescriptive and descriptive researches on the translation ofchildren’s literature coexist, but the latter has gained more popularity in recent years.What’s more, studies on the translation of children’s literature have been accessed froman interdisciplinary perspective by dint of Communication Theory, Semiotics, SystemicFunctional Linguistics and so on (Ying, 2015). In a word, studies on the translation ofchildren’s literature abroad expound on a wide range from text-oriented approaches tocultural and ideological ones on the one hand; on the other hand, approaches based onindividually psychological analysis and sociological analysis have been also explored.However, translation studies on children’s literature in China have not attracted enoughattention from the mainstream scholars in translation studies, so it is still a very weakfield of research, not only the number of researches being small, but also the qualityneeding to be improved (Li & Zhu, 2015). Present translation studies on children’sliterature in China have mainly focused on analysis of textual factors in the translation.There have also been some researches on non-textual factors like culture and socialfactors influencing translation from perspectives of Functional Theory and AdaptationTheory. Since the 1990s, translation studies have entered a so-called “sociological turn”,which locates translation studies in the social background and then analyzes the relationship between translation and social environment. Among these sociologicaltheories, Bourdieusian
Sociology has been applied most to translation studies, for itcombines social factors and individual factors influencing translation studies, surpassingtraditional dichotomy, therefore it can give a more convincing explanation of thephenomena in translation studies. While in China, studies on the translation of children’sliterature from this perspective are rare. Social backgrounds at home and abroad aredifferent and translators are all unique, hence it is necessary to research it from theperspective of Bourdieusian sociology to analyze the social and individual factors in thetranslation of children’s literature in China.

1.2 Research Questions
Through the in-depth analysis of the Chinese translation Yindu Tonghuaji, thisresearch attempts to find answers to the following questions:1) What social factors have influenced Bing Xin’s selection of Indian Fairy Talesas the source language text to translate?
