laudable construction of identity of females with exquisite touch in literary works. For instance, the three representative novels within the field of Chinese-American literature in English that this thesis will primarily cope with and which have sparked heated discussion and extensive scholarly researches as well are Amy Tan’s The Bonesetter’s Daughter (2003), Maxine Hong Kingston’s The Woman Warrior (1976), and Fae Myenne Ng’s Bone (1993).

Chapter Two Literature Review on Females’ Identity Construction within the Works of Chinese-American Literature in English

2.1 Domestic Studies

Identity study on Chinese immigrants is a hot topic in modern humanities and social sciences, certainly including the field of literature, since the number of Chinese immigrants who have dispersed to different regions of the world is huge and the impact that the complicated migration and assimilation process have caused is profound, which has till now sparked extensive domestic and overseas researches. Chinese scholars put more emphasis on investigating identity issue of Chinese immigrants in America compared with other places also due to the large population of Chinese Americans and related profound influences and explorable connotations. As an important branch of world literature concerning diaspora issue, Chinese-American literature in English inevitably covers the themes of identity, ethnicity as well as subjectivity, which provides scholars a new vision and insight to conduct identity investigation on immigrants. Within this field, female figures’ identity issue has aroused much scholarly attention since females’ inferior status determines they are more prone to encounter identity crisis. A large portion of related researches center on analysing females’ identity confusion and anxiety that they have to overcome in the process of constructing identity. In detail, scholars dissect females’, particularly the first-generation of female immigrants’ misfortune and pain suffered in China, along with the cultural conflict that they find miserable and difficult to adapt to which results in a haunting cultural identity confusion. Wang and He research on Amy Tan’s Joy Luck Club (1989)-the classic and most famous work within the field of  Chinese-American literature in English.

2.2 Overseas Studies

Overseas studies on Chinese immigrants’ identity construction issue have a considerably large volume. However, identity issue exploration of female figures within Chinese-American literature in English is comparatively less frequently conducted. Overseas scholars tend to investigate the changing identity, specifically how the change is revealed in the process of female Chinese Americans’ assimilation into American community, as well as their ethic options, ethnic bonds, and final diverse identity negotiation. Related overseas researches frequently blend identity issue into the broad postmodern diaspora narrative which involves the transnational movement of both a large population and the individuals who undertake such a movement, and overseas scholars commonly acknowledge that how female immigrants can cope with the problem caused by destabilized home and identity notion in the transnational movement appears to be pivotal for their identity construction. Melody Yunzi Li (2014) explores the conceptualizations of identity in Ha Jin’s 2007 migrant novel A Free Life through the len论文英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写英语论文代写代写论文代写英语论文代写留学生论文代写英文论文留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
