摘要:What's more,of the limited researches on the relationship between language learningbelief and learning strategy, most of which are mainly focused on the freshmen orsophomores in universities, students at vocational colleges are usually neglected by theresearchers.
1. Introduction
1.1 Background of the study
In recent years, with the development of psycholinguistics,a lot of researchers andteachers realize the importance of the individual differences in second language learning. Inaddition, their attention has begun to shift from how-to-teach to how-to-leam.Some researchers believe that individuals play a more important role than teachers insecond language learning. Learners' differences, such as language learning beliefs, learningstrategies, learning styles, motivation and personalities, have become more important insecond language learning. Among these variables, learning beliefs are regarded as one of themost dynamic. Wenden (1987) believes that if we want to find the characteristics of‘successful language learners, we need to find out what language learners believe in theirlanguage learning, and what's more, to provide some activities which would permit languagelearners to examine their language learning beliefs and their possible influence on how theyapproach their language learning.The study of language learning strategies is also one important part in second languageacquisition. Its importance is becoming more and more prominent. Learning strategy is a kindof learning method used by learners in their learning activities. What's more,it can facilitateautonomous learning and increase learning efficiency. If used appropriately, learning strategycan improve the internalization, storage, retrieval or usage of a foreign language. Oxfordpoints out that there are two reasons why learning strategy is important: First, strategy is a tool for self-study, especially to improve communicative ability; secondly, a person who usesappropriate learning strategies is more confident and more efficient in learning.

1.2 Need of the study
Traditionally, students' success or failure in second language learning has always beenowed to the language teachers' teaching. However, people gradually find out that "No matterwhat kind of teaching method the language teachers take, what kind of teaching materials theteachers use,there always have some learners who make great achievements in Englishlearning and some of them who don't make any progress" (Liu, 1999). Therefore, researchershave identified some individual learner variables which influence language learning outcomesuch as age, cognitive style, motivation, self-efFicacy, self-concept, anxiety, learning beliefand learning strategy. Among these variables,language learning belief and learning strategyhave become heated topics recently.While something may influence the choice of language learning strategies. Influencedby previous experiences or preconceived language knowledge, language learners oftenpossess different language learning beliefs (Horwitz, 1987). At the same time,manyresearchers have indicated that learners' pre-existed language learning beliefs would affectthe use of their language learning strategies and learning of the second language (Wenden,1986; Abraham & Vann, 1987; Horwitz, 1987),In the western countries, there are a lot of studies about language learning beliefs. Andsome researchers have made great contributions on language learning beliefs such as Horwitz(1985,1987,1988),Wenden (1987),Tumposky (1991), Campbell (1993).
