摘要:Building upon previous researches, this thesis studied the effects ofLCTV on the professional competence of Business English Major inhigher vocational college in China.
Notably, fewer researchers have specially studied the ComprehensiveCourse of Business English in higher vocational colleges. TangXiaoning(2010) specifically explored the study of TBT in IntensiveReading of Business English Major in Higher Vocational Colleges. ZengTiaoyun(2010) employed TBT to explore the teaching practice based onthe content of "Market Leader". So far, nearly nobody has proposed newtheory on the Comprehensive Course of Business English in highervocational colleges, and integrated CBI and TBT to study it empirically.To sum up, more and more researchers propose that business Englishbe understood from new perspectives, and comprehensive teachingmodels be applied in the teaching of business English. Meanwhile, morestudy should be done about the Comprehensive Course of Business English in higher vocational colleges.
0.2 Rationale for the Present Study
The present study is an attempt to explore LCTV on promotingprofessional competence of Business English Majors in higher vocationalcolleges. Several issues can be identified for the selection of this study.Firstly, Liu Runqin(1999) claimed that senior English learners shouldturn to study certain content. Huang Weixin(2005) pointed out thatEnglish language is a communication tool only and ihe final goal ofEnglish learners is to employ English to learn professional knowledgeand skills. For Business English, their final goal is lo master businessskills and settle business problems by using business English.
Chapter One Literature Review
The current chapter focuses on related studies of CBI and TBT. Itevidences that CBI and TBT are effective teaching method for theimprovement of students' language proficiency and the existing staudiesare not satisfactory because nobody has integrated CBI and TBT toexclusively study the comprehensive course of Business English Major inhigher vocational colleges. Therefore, more research on this topic isneeded.
1.1 Studies of CBI at Home and Abroad and the Shortage
So far, different people have studied CBI from different aspects, suchas the essence of CBI (Kathleen Corrales &Cesar Maloof); therelationship between CBI and ESP (Ann M. Johns and Li Jiang); therelationship between the second language acquisition and models ofCBI(Cai Jiang,2002).Besides, the relationship between CBI and particular course teachinghas also attracted people's attention,such as CBI in the extensive readingcourse for English major(Wang Shixian, 1994;Zhang Jinping,2007); theenlightenment of CBI on professional English (Huang Juan, 2007); theapplication of CBI in the listening and speaking course of BusinessEnglish(Li Quanglin and Wu Xuxia,2010).
