Mail Merge
You are to demonstrate to Mike and Sue the capabilities of the mail merge facility of Office products. Sue wants to send out letters to all the existing ‘personal training program’ customers (as listed on the database that you will construct) thanking them for enrolling in a ‘training’ program and giving them a few details about other activities (i.e. gymnasium and fitness classes) which Y Gen Gym also runs.   As this is a sales letter you should use an appropriate tone.  Create your own details about costs, health benefits etc.
In completing this task you should first prepare a company letterhead. (Note: the letterhead should include a company logo and relevant details about the company such as address, phone number and email address.  You can make up any relevant details when preparing the letterhead for Y Gen Gym: (see ‘Preparing a Letterhead’ in the Week 5 Workshop Notes)),
The letter must be set out appropriately and be expressed employing appropriate business style and language. Provide a hard-copy sample of one completed letter and economics be prepared to demonstrate the mail merge in the Week 12 Workshop.
Credit Level Database Tasks
NOTE:  All students must attempt the Credit Level
You are required to implement the part of the information system that will record data about:
Training Program, Instructors and Customers.  Some sets of data have been provided for you by Sue.  These can be downloaded from the course site.

 A spread sheet (training programs.xlsx) containing details about each program
 A spread sheet which lists all instructors and their details. (Instructors.xlsx)
 You will create the third table which will describe Customers and populate it with data. The following are sample field names:
• Customer ID
• Family name
• Given name
• Billing Address 1
• Billing Address 2
• Billing Post Code
• Contact Phone
• Contact Phone Mobile
• Contact Email
Logical Design

The first stage is to logically design the database which will store information about the training programs, staff and clients.
This stage does not use database software (such as Access).  This is a pen and paper (or word processor) exercise. 


Step 1 
Identify the entities/tables and fields that you will need to record data about the training programs, staff and customers.
There will be THREE entities/tables.

Identify the Primary Keys for each entity.  If there is no appropriate primary key you will need to create one.
Step 2 For the ‘Customer’ entity/table only, draw a table showing entity/table name, field names, field types and properties (use the table on page 9 of Access Workshop 1- Activity 1 as a guide)
