摘要:在英语教学中如何提高学生的写作能力,以及妨碍使用的各种方法和手段,人们一直在关注,但结果不是很好。对于大多数学生来说,英语写作水平的发挥在特定情况下的最大障碍限制,他们不能在最短的时间内从脑海中提取出他们所需要的单词和短语。
1.2 Aim and significance of the research研究的意义和目标
For students, writing is crucial but difficult. The aim of the research is to prove thatthe use of lexical chunks indeed has a positive influence on students* writing. In order toprove that, a study based on authentic materials, i.e. corpus will be carried out.According to the scores, with 9 point as the dividing line, the corpus will be divided intotwo groups: high-rated group which represents advanced students and low-rated groupwhich represents less advanced students. By the comparison of the number of lexicalchunks used between the two groups, the corpus data will probably show whether theadvanced students use more lexical chunks than less advanced students in writing.Besides, it will display what kinds of lexical chunks are common in students"compositions. Therefore, on the basis of the corpus-based study, the thesis aims atpresenting a true picture of the influence of lexical chunks use on non-English majors'writing and discovering some features of lexical chunks in their compositions.The significance of the research includes two aspects. For one thing, by thecorpus-based study of lexical chunks in students" compositions, the thesis hopes to givea reasonable explanation for the influence of lexical chunk use on students' writing. Foranother, by the introduction of lexical chunks in the thesis, the importance of them inEnglish teaching and learning is hoped to be realized by more and more teachers andstudents.
1.3 Overview of the thesis论文概述
The thesis is made up of six chapters. To be more specific, it is presented asfollows:Chapter 1 firstly introduces the background of the research topic, and then pointsout the aim and significance of the present study. It finally offers the outline of thethesis.Chapter 2 provides a review of the previous literature concerned with the presentstudy. First of all, it introduces various terms and definitions of lexical chunks given bymany scholars. Then,the classification of lexical chunks is illustrated from two aspects.One is from the structural aspect. The other is from the functional aspect. Next, the rolesof lexical chunks are analyzed from two perspectives as well. One is from the output oflanguage. The other is from the input of language. Lexical chunks can not only help usproduce language in a more accurate, fluent and appropriate way, but also better ourcomprehension. In the end, previous research on lexical chunks is concluded.Chapter 3 involves the design and methodology of the research.
