摘要:本文指出爱尔兰戏剧剧作家在对英雄主题的采撷中透露出其民族文化意识,并从英雄原型在该时期不同阶段剧作中的嬗变发现爱尔兰剧作家从追求民族文化独立向反对摧残人性的战争的创作重心转变。

Though the realism of the young writers is taking the place offantasy and romance of ancient Irish myth, the heroic vision was not ended but metamorphosesinto other form. In “The Anti-heroic Vision”, David Krause demonstrates how O’Casey conveyshis dialectical theme of pacifism and nationalism in his Dublin Trilogy by characterizinganti-heroic males and heroic females. Therefore probing into the heroic archetypes in Irishpeople’s collective consciousness as reflected in the plays during Irish Dramatic Movement willbe of profound significance. On the one hand it will provide us an insight of the subtlepsychological differences between playwrights of different generations. On the other hand it willallow us to know better the cultural nationalism in those patriotic playwrights. However,scholarship of this subject has rarely been witnessed so far. This, inevitably and undoubtedly, isa vacuum to be filled.

第二章主要介绍文学中的英雄原型与成长模式,在考察凯尔特神话系统后总结出三类爱尔兰神话与民间传说中的传统英雄原型。By the time literature appears in the development of a culture, the society hasalready come to share a whole system of stereotypes and archetypes: major symbolsstanding for the fundamental realities of the human condition, including the kind ofsymbolic realities that are enshrined in religion and myth. Literature may use suchsymbols directly, but all great works of literary art are, as it were, original and uniquemyths. The world's great classics evoke and organize the archetypes of universalhuman experience. ("literature." Encyclop dia Britannica 2009)
As previously quoted from the description of subject matter and resources of literature inEncyclopedia Britannica 2009, the most scholarly authoritative cyclopedia in the world, “Myths,legends, and folktales lie at the beginning of literature, and their plots, situations, and allegoricaljudgments of life represent a constant source of literary inspiration that never fails.” ("literature."Encyclop dia Britannica 2009) Swiss psychoanalyst C.C. Jung also believed that “myths arefirst and foremost psychic phenomena that reveal the nature of the soul.” (Jung, 1981:6) Givenhis demonstrations of the archetype in myth and fairy tale, there is no doubt that some of thefigures he identifies are recurrent characters in mythology, folklore and literature.
