新课改强调包括知识技能、情感技能和学习策略为一体的三维教学观。新课标指导下的考试大纲对语言知识考察的范围扩展并细化了。学生应该要掌握和运用英语的语音、词汇、和语法基础知识,并要掌握所学的功能意念和话题。

1 Introduction
This chapter is a general introduction to the present study.And the content included is the motivation and the research questions of this paper,the significance as well as the whole organization of the paper.

1.1 A brief introduction to this thesis
Nowadays,it is generally accepted that the test has become an indispensable part of the language instructions,for the testing results produce backwash to the teaching and learning, and the information collected is essential to the effectiveness of the teaching program.

Bachman(1990:54)addresses the fundamental purpose of testing in an educational program is to provide information for making decisions,that is,for evaluation.So it is important to ensure the validity of a test.
The purpose of the study is to explore the content validity of the National Matriculation English Test hereafter NMET.The author would compare the New Curriculum Standard of the senior school education,the test specification as well as the test syllable with the whole test paper in terms of Bachman’s task characteristic framework.

The author will study the New Curriculum Standard,the test specification and the test syllable to make an overall understanding of the new curriculum reform.Then based on the task characteristic framework formed by Bachman and Palmer,combined with the revised frameworks of the former research of the different parts of the different tests,such as the TEM (Test for English Majors)4 and 8,CET(College English Test)4 and 6,NMTEM(National Entrance Test of English for Ma/Ms candidates)etc,the author will apply these frameworks to the corresponding parts of the NMET to get the characteristic of the testing parts.And finally, a comparison is made between the analysis results and the new curriculum standard,the test specification and the test syllable to check the content validity of the NMET in the year of 2011.

1.2 The motivation
The year 2011 is special for the NMET test takers,for after the three years’instruction with the new curriculum English education reform,teaching method and the new English books,it is the first time for the students to take NMET designed under the guide of the new curriculum.It can be said to be a milestone in the education of the Shanxi province.And the author expresses enthusiastic interests in it.

The reform in the English teaching shows some differences.The new curriculum reform places great emphasis on the triangular teaching methods including the knowledge skill,the emotion skill and the learning strategies.The requirement for the testing scope of the language knowledge under the New Curriculum Standard extends and specifies.Not only do the students use the knowledge of the pronunciation,vocabulary and the grammar,but also they should master the functions and the topics they have learned in the class.

Through the careful analysis of the whole test paper the author hopes to find how these requirements are tested in the new curriculum testing paper and make a judgment to what extent it covers the spirit of the new curriculum.

1.3 The importance of the research
The significance of conducting this research is listed as follows.
