5.1 Analysis on Omission in Different Themes of SI

In this chapter, a thorough analysis will be conducted and presented here. Theauthor will analyze the data collected on omission in the experiment throughquantitative and qualitative ways. In addition, the author will analyze the causes ofomission on the basis of Anderson’s Three Stages Cognitive Progress Model.After accomplishing the total 25 pieces of the transcription of interpretations, theresults are shown as below.Here is the table about the number of omissions in different themes of SI, andthey are Ceremonial Speech (shorten as CS), Tourism (shorten as T), ConferenceAddress (shorten as CA), Publicity and Presentation (shorten as PP), and ScienceReport (SR).The table above shows the analyzing results about the number of omission in therecordings of five subjects and five different themes. Through this type of analysis oneach piece of the recordings, data can be summarized, mainly on the comparison ofomission among different themes by different subjects as well as comparison ofomission in different themes by the same subject. First, the author will analyze theomission of different themes by the same subject, and then the author will analyze theomission of the same theme by different subjects.

Conclusion

A summary of this thesis will be presented in this chapter, which includes theresearch findings and the significance of the study. Besides, the limitations of thethesis will also be mentioned in the end of this chapter.This study aims to analyze the rationality of omission in simultaneousinterpretation. In order to make the result more objective and scientific, the authorselects five students to interpret five themes of interpretation with variables beenstrictly controlled. The records of their interpretations are analyzed with theapplication of scientific software. After finishing the transcript of the recordings ofinterpretation, the author marks the omission carefully and then analyzes them inqualitative and quantitative ways. After the first section of the experiment, the authorthen reviews the subjects to record and transcribe their reasons for omission.
