Chapter Five Data Analysis and Findings

 In this chapter, firstly it presents the data collected from the PLSP questionnaire to identify the different learning styles of the subjects. Secondly it displays the results and  statistics  for  the effects  of learning  strategy  input  on  subjects’ oral  production  in terms  of fluency,  accuracy  and  complexity.  And  then  the effects  of different  strategy input on subjects’ oral production will be presented. Finally, data analysis of subjects’ strategy use and findings will be shown at the end of this chapter. 

5.1 Data Analysis of the Learning-style Preference in Pre-study 

In  this  study,  the  Chinese  version  of  Reid’s  PLSP  (1987)  was  employed  to identify the subjects’ perceptual learning style preference. There are 5 questions for each learning style category, and the questions are grouped according to each learning style. Each question the subjects answer has a numerical value: between 5 and 1 with strongly agree to strongly disagree. When  the  subjects  completed  the  learning  style  preference  category,  their numerical  values  are  added.  Then  multiply  the  answer  by  2,  and  put  the  total  in  the appropriate blank.
