摘要:As one of the basic language skills, writing is an essential part in English teaching.More and more concern is paid on it. During the writing teaching process, writing feedbackis a very important part. Efficient use of feedback can do a big favor to English writingteaching and English writing learning.

ess-oriented approach is "an approach to the teachingof writing which stresses the creativity of the individual writer, and which pays attention tothe development of good writing practices rather than the imitation of models". So theprocess approach is more creative and effective. In a process-oriented writing class,students are participants of the writing process and commenting process and they are nomore only waiting to receive teachers’ comments on their compositions. Teachers are alsono longer the most powerful men in class, as it can be seen that teachers are the ones to organize the class and provide information to students’composition.

2.2 Studies on Feedback to English Writing
In this part, studies on feedback to English writing, it mainly presents the presentstudy of feedback. It concludes three parts: definition of feedback; studies of teacherfeedback from home and abroad and studies of peer feedback from home and abroad. The origin of “feedback” is the theory of engineering systems. The word “feedback”is originally used to describe a feature of a system. The system allows information to be“‘fed back’ to the input in order to influence future outputs” (William, 1998: 26). In thearea of human performance, Ramaprasad (1983: 28) gives a definition of feedback:"information about the gap between the actual level and the Reference (or desired) level ofa system parameter which is used to alter the gap in some way".In the area of EFL, some researchers also give some definitions about feedback.Lalande (1982: 66) defines feedback as "any procedure used to inform a learner where aninstructional response is right or wrong." In Longman Dictionary of Language Teachingand Applied Linguistics, there is a definition of feedback, in which it says feedback is the“comments or information learners receive on the success of a learning task, either fromthe teacher or from other learners". Keh (1990: 29) describes feedback more specifically as"input from a reader to a writer with the effect of providing information to the writer forrevision". Recently, Lewis defines feedback as "all post-response information that isprovided to a learner to inform the learner of his or her actual state of learning orperformance" (2007: 5). Ur (2002) considers that feedback has two main elements:evaluation and correction (qtd. from Zhang Xuemei; Dai Weidong, 2001).
