usually a mistake to start by writing an introduction and background information just because this will be placed in the initial sections/chapters in your dissertation. Research work does not often follow a linear pattern and only rarely can you predict in advance exactly what you will need later. g. English Be aware of the fact that language mistakes can affect the mathematical meaning of statements. The usage of words and grammar has to be exceptionally careful in a mathematical text. For example, if you say “the extension,” this means that there is only one or you are referring to an object introduced before. In principle, mistakes in English are not corrected by the Dissertation Advisor, since this is not his or her responsibility. Students are assumed to have sufficient command of the language. If this is not the case, a general indication will be issued that the language has to be improved. Linguistic perfection is not required, but the Advisor will insist on a minimum standard: if the meaning is affected by poor English, this will have to be corrected. h. Mathematical symbols and formulae Unless agreed with the Dissertation Advisor in advance, these should be produced using the Equation Editor in Word. This applies not only to displayed formulae, but also to expressions and even to single-letter symbols within the text (for uniformity of style). Avoid text within mathematics, but if necessary, change the font to your usual text font. Please do not use any mathematical editor other than the original Microsoft Equation Editor, which comes as part of Microsoft Word.Otherwise, the Dissertation Advisor or Consultant may have to return your work unread. i. References A bibliography list should be included at the end and should contain all items cited in the text. Only items actually referred to somewhere in the text should be included. Each item should be fully described(author, title, and then depending on whether it is a paper, book or downloaded file: journal title, volume number, year, publisher, place, year/web address, date, page numbers). The references should be arranged alphabetically (by the authors’ names). A citation in the body of the dissertation should refer to the number on the list of references or to the author’s name or some abbreviation, for example: “… see [12], Theorem 3.2” where the corresponding entry in the bibliography should be [12] Brown, J., Calculus, Oxford University Press, Oxford 1998. or “…see [Brown 1998], Theorem 3.2.” where the corresponding entry should be Brown, J. (1998), Calculus, Oxford University Press, Oxford. or “…see [Br98], Theorem 3.2.” where the corresponding entry should be [Br98] Brown, J. (1998), Calculus, Oxford University Press,Oxford.Do not mix these referencing styles. Only one of them should be adopted and used consistently throughout the dissertation. Please avoid references in footnotes (or you will have to give the same details several times if the same reference is quoted on different pages). j. Final touches Please re-read your text several times before submission (this includes the submission of draft work), paying careful attention to detail: formatting, layout, style, clarity, consistency, and so on. If possible, have someone else read it for you critically (How about swapping with a colleague?). It also goes without saying that you should check the spelling in all your work. You may use any version of English spelling (for example, British, Americ论文英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写英语论文代写代写论文代写英语论文代写留学生论文代写英文论文留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
