Chapter 6 Conclusion

In Mary Shelley’s literary career,because of her life experience,her writing style is verydifferent.At the same time,her deep humanitarian spirit is also reflected in Frankenstein.Frankenstein pursued scientific innovation and craved taboo knowledge.Feeling lost andempty,Frankenstein falls into a spiritual vacuum.Under this unhealthy drive,Frankensteinchooses a method that violates scientific ethics and human relations to realize his dream ofmaking a man.But after the success of the creation of human,he was because of themonster’s ugly face,despicable escape.Since being born,the monster has learned humanlanguage and culture.He wanted human approval,but he couldn’t get it.The monster cannotbear the huge psychological pressure,causing a series of strange suspense and murder.Andthese consequences are due to Frankenstein and the monster’s unbalanced spirit.

Based on Lu Shuyuan’s theory of spiritual ecology,this paper analyzes the symptoms ofmental imbalance between Frankenstein and the monster and the methods of restoring mentalbalance from three perspectives:spiritual vacuum,behavioral impotence and existencealienation.From the perspective of spiritual vacuum,the author thinks that to overcome innerconfusion,daydream and nightmare,we should return to nature,carry on the self-adjustmentof the soul,and read more books to cultivate the sentiment.From the perspective ofbehavioral impotence,we believe that to overcome the pretense in front of people and theindifference to the outside world,we should change our attention,stay away from stressfulplaces or take practical actions with honesty.From the perspective of existential alienation,we believe that to overcome the alienation from family and friends as well as from humanbeings and society,we should return to family life to produce emotional communication andbe close to human beings and society.
