Conclusion

Although many problems on vagueness in LOC have been revealed or presented.Yet, due to the inadequacy of the author's level, this study has not reached the point ofsatisfaction in many ways. The present study is carried on the corpus of fifty letters;therefore, the limitation of data might result in inadequacy and inaccuracy inresearching process. Besides, this thesis only presents an overview picture on pragmaticvagueness in LOC, leaving the application of this research to other fields unmentioned.For instance, this study explains vagueness in LOC mainly based on the CP, the PP andthe FT, other theories such as Adaptation Theory and Relevance Theory may provideexplanations to this linguistic phenomenon as well, which this thesis fails to apply.The author mainly focuses on the vagueness in LOC. It is also of great significanceto conduct a research on vagueness in Chinese LOC. A contrastive research onvagueness between English LOC and Chinese LOC may also be carried out.
