Conclusion


This research is theoretically significant. Firstly, it applies the Needs Analysistheory of ESP to textbook evaluation. Secondly, this research also combines thegenre-based pedagogy to evaluate BE textbooks. Few previous studies do BE textbookevaluation with this combined perspective.This research also has some practical significance. Firstly, this paper doesresearch through questionnaire survey and interview. And this paper combinestextbook analysis with social needs analysis. Secondly, this paper adopts bothquantitative and qualitative research methods to analyze practical genres with textbookgenres contrastively. In this way, the research result is more convincing. Thirdly, thispaper uses BE textbook designing criteria advocated by a representative University toanalyze the present BE textbooks. Though it is just a case study, the research resultcould provide cuiislruclive Reference foi othci uiiivcisitics on 3E course bookcompilation. Thus, this research is of relatively high referential value.
The thesis shows three aspects of limitations, as follows: Firstly, the questionnairesample maybe not large enough. In the process of handing out questionnaires, there aresome missing values which will influence the validity of the questionnaire Secondly,the interview technique requires improvement. The interviewer sometimes cannot putup with the silence during talk and interrupt the interviewee's thinking with morequestions. And the interviewer sometimes may ask Yes/No questions to which theinterviewee only offers a short answer without much discussion. And the interviewerdoes not know how to draw the interview back to the right track when the intervieweesdigress. And sometimes the interviewer talks too much and as a result the interviewerbasically gives the interviewees the answer she is hoping to get. The purpose of theinterview is to allow us to enter into the other person's perspective but sometimes people are not able to report things which are not consciously noticed. Thirdly, as thereare more and more Business English majors in many universities, more BE teachingprinciples and textbook design criteria should be collected for research.
