1. Proposal for the development of the database (30%) (To be submitted at the end of week 5)

2a) A guide to accompany the database for the commissioning manager (30%).

2b) A database and a guide to the database for the IT system manager who will take over responsibility for it. (40%)
The development of a database is a required element that is to be the basis of both items.

Basis of the Assessment:
The assessment will be based on the quality and appropriateness of the documents prepared for the client. Thus each of the documents should reflect the nature of their readership and show an understanding of the nature of the business, its requirements, the mechanism for satisfying them and the intended developments of it in the future. While the developed database may be in pilot form there should be sufficient practical development to allow for direct reference to be made in the documents. Provided that this last requirement is met then reference to future development and developments that have been prepared for (and perhaps piloted) in the design are encouraged. Particular credit will be given where both current requirements and those of the longer term are provided for.

The documents must:

1. help the commissioning manager decide how to implement the database in the office.
2. enable a technical manager obtain a rapid understanding of the technical design of your database

Assignment

An organisational scenario with a particular client will provide the setting for the practical work.

Implementation guide.

As its name indicates, this document will help the commissioning manager implement the database in the company. Of particular interest here is how the database fulfils the needs of the different roles within the office. You should explain what those requirements are and how the database tackles these needs. You should also identify any changes to current working practices that need to be carried out as a result of using your database.
