1.Introduction
1.1 UK universities in the eyes of Chinese
Many UK universities have a long history, for example, Cambridge can be traced back to 800 years ago, while the oldest Chinese universities just were set up no more than 200 years. Long history implicates profound experience and advanced theories of Higher Education (HE). Academically, UK universities are famous for their comprehensive strengths, just as O’Connell commented, with a “reputation.” worldwide, UK universities are renowned for their high academic standards, cutting-edge educational facilities (particularly in the sciences, engineering and the arts), and broad range of offerings combined with the flexibility to accommodate individual student needs (O'Connell). The difference of UK HE from Chinese higher education is that UK institute teaches foreign students a kind of independent thinking, creativity with ideas (most conspicuous in artistic disciplines but as evident in disciplines such as business and politics – “thinking outside the box” – and even science (O'Connell). All of these positive images and reputation in UK universities is one of the reasons that Chinese students preferred UK universities.
