Chapter One Introduction

In real life, when judging one’s language competence, most often it is the speakingability which would be referred to rather than the other skills (McDonough & Shaw,1993). Within all basic language skills, speaking in listening, speaking, writing andreading is occupies an important and fundamental position when learners communicateor talk with strangers either in commercial activities or other events. Proficient oralability in English can advance people’s life chances considerably. It is a skill by whichfirst impressions are being formed (Hedge, 2000).Hymes (1972) refers that communicative competence includes knowledge thespeaker-hearer has of what constitutes appropriate as well as correct language behaviorand also of what constitutes effective language behavior in relation to particularcommunicative goals. Communicative competence reflects one’s speaking ability.Therefore, it plays an important role for people speak in English for communication indaily life.
英语教师的职责是促进和发展学生的学习兴趣,使学生的英语学习的目的有清晰的认识,提高学生自主学习和协作学习的能力,制定有效的战术,学生的英语学习,提高综合能力他们会讲英语。在他们的学校生活,学生应该有一个全面的语言能力,与他人沟通。为了达到预期目标,教科书之一,“中国高中英语”应用进行任务型语言教学时。
The responsibilities of English teachers are stimulating and developing students’learning interests, making students have a clear understanding of the purpose of Englishstudy, improving students’ independent and collaborative learning ability, formulatingthe efficient tactics of student’s English learning; improving the comprehensive abilitywhen they speak English. During their school life, students should havea comprehensive ability of language to communicate with others. In order to meet thetarget, one of the textbook, “Senior English for China” is applied when conductingthe task-based language teaching. In July 2001, Education Ministry stated that educatorsshould make the students learn the language by using the language in the language classroom rather than only teach the knowledge about the language. It is believed thatthe teaching of task-based language as one of the most useful method provides a fullinteractive environment in order to make students show their interest in learning and todevelop their oral English potentials and to evoke their language competence to use thelanguage creatively. Every theory and research has flaws. In order to narrow the gapbetween the theory and the application, apart from every aspect of the theory, the realityshould also be taken into consideration.


1.1 Research Background
The teaching effect is mostly decided by teaching approaches. Oral English is quiteimportant because it is the basic requirement for college students. With the rapiddevelopment of globalization, the position of China in the world is getting more andmore important. It is the prime task for students to learn effective English,this isnecessary and essential. Learning English is an indispensable part of students,not onlyfor English majors but also for non-English majors.One of the aims of learning language is to communicate with each other.
