摘要:From the theoretical perspective, since the eighties in the 20lli century, textbookevaluation has been received increasing attention and popularity. Accordingly, a numberof experts have done relatively research towards it .
4. Results and Discussion
4.1 Students' English learning needs
As we know, learners' language proficiency needs to be checked before tiiey choosea textbook that is suitable for them because 80 subjects are from two different majorswith different backgrounds. The best way to check their English proficiency is to presenttheir scores in National Entrance Examination for College, which is showed in thefollowing table. The total point (TP) is 150 and 90 is the cut-off score that means someone passesthe examination. The author divided the scores into five categories, as revealed in theabove table. It is clear that 62 students have not passed the cut-off score,which accountsto 81.58% of all the subjects. There are two scales of scores that most students havegained 40—69 (36.84%) and 70—89 (34.21%). Until the time when the present study is conducted,students have been taught 2terms using the textbook Innovation College English — An Integrated Course, They arequite familiar with the textbook and can careftilly evaluate it from their own situation. Inthe process of learning, it is not difficult for them to notice whether this textbook issuitable for them and whether their learning needs are fully met

Conclusion
The textbook Innovation College English — An Integrated Course used in HubeiYouth Vocational College is basically suitable for students and meets students' Englishlearning needs.As far as guiding ideology is concerned, this textbook shares the teaching conceptof people-oriented, which takes students in tiie center of English learning. Besides, themethod of Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) is taken into consideration whenthe textbook is compiled, which employ task-based activities in language classroom so asto cultivate students' communicative competence. The instructional objectives arebasically consistent with those that are demanded in Basic Requirement (2000),whichcombines language teaching with language learning to enable students to master theintegrated skills for English use.In term of textbook design, students are satisfied with the layout that contains bothEnglish knowledge and English skills. Each unit takes the order of Input-Output, whichis in line with language learning principles. However, connections between the units needto be improved for furttier study.
