5.1 Introduction
In this section, the author will discuss and analysis according to the relevantresults presented in the chapter 4. According to the data obtained in the research,the phenomenon of the learners’ interlanguage variation is really complicated.The results in the research indicate that the learners will vary their interlanguagewith the change of the specific factors. Although their performances produced avery high grammatical accuracy in some situations, they produced a less accuracyin the same task in other situations. Therefore, it is difficult for us to determinewhether the learners have acquired the target language or not. So next the threefactors mentioned in the study (the clause types, the syntactic function, timepressure) will be analyzed how to have an effect on interlanguage variation or notone by one.

Conclusion


This research is mainly devoted to investigate the multi-factor’ effects on thevariable performances of Chinese students in the perspective of theintra-linguistic factors and extra-linguistic factors when they learn the absolutestructure, which is one of the most difficult English grammars. Of course, all ofthese Chinese students regard English as the second language. In this researchthere are three specific factors concerned. Each of them is respectively thedifferent kinds of clause types, the syntactic functions of the absolute structureand the time pressure.The absolute structure is composed of the logical subject (noun/pronoun) andnon-finite verb/adjective (adverb)/noun/preposition phase. Some linguistsregarded it as the composite structure. The absolute structure has severalcharacteristics.Firstly, this structure is not sentence, subordinate clause and phase. It can not beconnected with the main clause through conjunctions. What’s more, it can not beguided by subordinate conjunction, usually separated with the main clause by comma. Secondly, the logical subject in the absolute structure is independent andis not the subject of sentence. Thirdly, “logical subject + non-finite verb” in theabsolute structure has a logical relationship with “subject + predicate” or forms“there being” pattern. Therefore, non-finite verbs in the absolute structure haveno change in tense, person and number. Fourthly, “logical subject + adjective(adverb)/noun/preposition phase in the absolute structure forms the logicalrelationship like “subject + linking verb + predicative”. Lastly, the absolutestructure is usually served as adverbial in the matrix clause. Occasionally inmany cases of serving as attributive, subject, predicate, the absolute structure canbe converted into corresponding sentence or other compound sentence.
