摘要:本文是英语毕业论文,It is of practical significance to conduct this study. Although there exist someresearchers trying to explore the roles of videos on second language listeningcomprehension from cognitive load perspective, they only explained their resultsbased on cognitive load theory without providing sufficient evidence about howvideo actually changes learners’ cognitive load.

Chapter One Introduction

1.1 Research Background
The importance of listening in the second language learning has been greatlyvalued by researchers and practitioners for it is an important source of language input(Kim, 2002, p. 117), which can greatly influence second language teaching.Researchers began to pay a lot of attention to second language listeningcomprehension, however, many English language learners are still confronted withdifficulty in second language listening. According to Vandergrift (2007, p. 191),listening still remains “the most implicit and least researched one among the fivelanguage skills”.In the past, second language learners were asked to listen through cassettes orCDs, in which case, they were exposed only to audio input. However, with theapplication of technology to the course of language teaching and learning, usingvisual support in the listening course has become possible. According to Dai (2007,pp. 285), in the mid 1950s, video materials were introduced into second languagelistening classrooms. Usually, Video is considered as the helpful tool for listeningcomprehension for video is supposed to contextualize the language, which may helpthe learners to experience authentic language in a controlled environment. With the advent of accessible video equipment in the late 1970s and early 1980s,research studies on the use and the role of video for the development of L2 listeningskills started to emerge as well (Gruba, 1999, p. 5). Most of them found using videois a very effective measure to improve listening comprehension (Mueller, 1980;Chung, 1994; Brett, 1997; Zhou & Yang, 2004; Wagner, 2007).

1.2 Significance and Purpose of the Thesis
It is of practical significance to conduct this study. Although there exist someresearchers trying to explore the roles of videos on second language listeningcomprehension from cognitive load perspective, they only explained their resultsbased on cognitive load theory without providing sufficient evidence about howvideo actually changes learners’ cognitive load. Therefore, a further exploration isneeded to explore how the video influences the listeners’ cognitive load, thusinfluences their second language listening comprehension.Besides, as what has been summarized of the studies of listening comprehension, conclusions about the effects of videos are not consistent even though the EFLteachers and scholars began to put emphasis on second language listening classrooma long time ago. The present study could provide some implications for all EFLteachers and learners who want to improve their listening comprehensionperformance and also the scholars studying second language listening comprehensionexaminations. In this sense, to further study the video’s effect on EFL learner’slistening comprehension is of great significance.

Chapter Two Literature Review

2.1 Introduction
Chapter two provides an overview of the previous studies related to presentstudy. It begins with the definition of listening comprehension and then the models oflistening comprehension process are demonstrated. And after that, the studies onsecond language listening comprehension are reviewed briefly. It is found that moststudies pay attention to the factors influencing second language listen论文英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写英语论文代写代写论文代写英语论文代写留学生论文代写英文论文留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
