sp; one students’  English  cultural  knowledge  is  relatively  weak.  These  problems  all  need students  to  accumulate  basic  knowledge  in  the  process  of  English  learning  and communicating.  Then,  results  from  the  questionnaire  survey  show  students  have  a lower level in English cultural understand. Most students just know fewer differences and similarities about culture between Chinese and English-speaking countries. They have  a  low  level  about  sensitivity  of  cultural  differences  between  Chinese  and English-speaking  countries.  Fortunately,  senior  one  students  have  a  positive  attitude towards  English  cultural  awareness.  More  than  half  of  the  students  are  interested  in the  cultural  knowledge  of  English-speaking  countries  by  collecting  290  students' questionnaires. Most students are aware of the importance of cultural awareness. 

Chapter6 Conclusion

6.1 Summary

Through this research and investigation, the author find out that the overall states of senior one students’ cultural awareness competence in Xiangtan county and the reason behind the problem. First of all, cultural awareness competence of senior one students in Xiangtan is in good condition overall. In addition, there are significant difference between different language proficiency and different senior high schools, but there is no significant difference in gender. After the above analysis and discussion, we know that language ability is the major factor result in different level of cultural awareness competence. Of course, language ability and thinking quality are part of the cultural foundation. Learning ability is the prerequisite and motivation for the development of the core literacy of students in English subjects. Cultural background knowledge also plays  an  important  role  in  the  development  of  cultural  awareness  competence. Lacking  of  authentic  cultural  context  is  the  one  of  factors  to  result  in  the  change  of cultural awareness competence.  

The  research  on  the  cultural  awareness  competence  of  senior  one  students  in Xiangtan  area  is  a  process  of  continuous  enrichment  and  continuous  development. This  research  only  conducts  a  relatively  simple  research  on  the  cultural  awareness competence  of  students,  which  understands  the  general  situation  and  analyzes  the reason behind the problem, and then proposes relevant measures and solution.
