5.1 Questionnaire Results and Analysis

The questionnaire is divided into two stages.The author handed out questionnaires to atotal of 81 students in the experimental class and the control class before the experimentstarted.The purpose of the questionnaire is to grasp the situation on English writing amongstudents.In the second stage,the author distributed post-questionnaires to students inexperimental class and the control class after the experiment.The major objective ofpost-questionnaire is to discuss whether students’perception of English writing before andafter is changed or not after applying POA.To guarantee the questionnaire has satisfiedreliability and validity,the author analyzes the results by means of SPSS26.0.

5.1.1 Descriptive Statistics of the Questionnaire

In this thesis,a five-level Likert scale survey was used for descriptive statistics in thescale design,and the higher the option score,the higher the degree of agreement.

Questions 1-5 of the questionnaire investigate students’overall English writingperformance.The mean scores of questions 1-5 ranged from 3 to 3.2,so it can be seen thatstudents do not have a high performance of their English writing.Question 2(I am confidentin my English writing)has the lowest mean score,indicating that students are not confident intheir English writing and have a weak foundation in English.Question 1(I think Englishwriting is a very important skill)focuses on students’English writing performance and the importance students attach to English writing,and the table 5.5 shows that students do notattach enough importance to English writing and are not proficient in English writing skills.

6.1 Research Findings

This experiment explores the application of POA in teaching English writing in highschool,with an aim to investigate the effect of POA on the quality of English writing andstudents’learning of English unit language items.In addition,the changes in students’perception of English writing after using POA are of great importance.The main findings areas follows.
