From the relationship between context and language, this paper tries to explain that context causes communication miscarriage. In order to avoid this phenomenon, this paper puts forward a view of grasping context factors wholly, aiming to conduct the communication smoothly. Introduction Language communication is the important method for people to exchange their thoughts and information. Actually, it is the process of using language in certain context. So, language communication must fit in with the language environment---context. As to context ,as early as 1920s,humanist Malinowski pointed out，“to understand language, one must get help from language environment”. He also did lots of research on the influence of“culture context” and “situation context” on discourse. J. R Firth developed context theory, which was based on the research achievement of Malinowski in 1960s.Brow&Yule(1983) defined context as “the surrounding of language usage”. Sperber and Wilson in 1986 deemed “language communication is process of inferring and has direct relationship with the people’s psychological states. It is cognitive process. During this process, the addressee uses the context to deal with the discourse”. These theories about context are very effective in English communication. However, due to the variety and complication of context factors, communication participants can not grasp the context correctly in daily life, a theory is lacked to expound how to grasp the context factors. This paper takes the liberty of discussing the context in English communication from grasping context factors wholly to get rid of communication miscarriage caused by context, aiming to infer and understand discourse by context. Thus, the communication can be conducted smoothly. It uses the pragmatic theory about context, analyzes some characters of language and the relationship between context and language and quotes some practical examples to expound the importance of grasping context factors wholly. 1.The characters of language We cannot live without the various communications. Communication is the process that people contact with each other. The way we use to communicate with others is language. The language you use correctly or not leads to the success or failure in communication. So, it is necessary for us to know the characters of language itself. First , language is always polysemous, that is ,the same expression forms of language often have several meanings. Sentence, phrase or even words have this character. For example, a word can express several meanings, like “hot” as an adjective in English can mean “baking”, “nippy”, ‘fiery”, “fresh” etc. Due to the confusion from the several meanings, people have more difficulties in understanding the
