Purpose and Significance of this Research 
With  the  help  of  corpus,  prosody  labeling  system  and  acoustic  analyzing software,  some  tentative  researches  have  been  done  to  investigate  the  prosodic features  of  EFL  learners  of  certain  dialectal  areas,  among  which,  researches  on Ningbo  and  Shandong  dialect  area  are  basically  mature  and  have  made  preliminary achievements. For example, Qian’s (2014) research on Ningbo EFL learners’ prosodic features of yes-no question; Shao’s (2013) research on the prosodic acquisition of tag-question  produced  by  Shandong  EFL  learners.  Besides,  there  are  also  researches  on EFL learners with other dialects, such as, Yu’s (2013) study on the rhythmic patterns of Hangzhou EFL learners, Lian’s (2013) study on the phonetic realization of narrow focus in yes-no sentences output by Beijing EFL learners. However, researches on the prosodic  features  of  EFL  learners  from  Northeast  dialectal  area  are  fairly  less. Discussions  of  the  dialectal  influence  on  supra-segmental  level,  for  example,  phrase segmentation, accent and intonation, are even rarer.  Concerning  the  insufficiency  of  practical  researches  about  the  prosodic  features of Chinese Northeast dialect learners in declarative questions tasks, the author in this thesis, through empirical study, aims to explore the prosodic features, specifically, the intonation phrasing pattern, the nuclear placement and the tone pattern, of declarative questions produced by EFL learners of Changchun, one of the representative cities of Northeast dialectal area.

Chapter Two Literature Review 

Prosodic  information  plays  a  critical  role  in  spoken  communication  in  terms  of identifying  speech  acts,  phrasing  speech  flows  into  structured  chunks,  locating  the “important”  words  or  phrases,  and  conveying  the  speakers’  emotions  or  attitudes.  Therefore,  it’s  necessary  to  have  a  basic  knowledge  of  prosody.  This  chapter  begins with a brief introduction of prosody, including definition of prosody, prosodic features as  well  as  focus,  and  then  reviews  the  previous  studies  of  EFL  learners’  prosody  at home and abroad.  

2.1 A Brief Introduction of Prosody
