ments as their center for worshiping. It is necessary for 'outsiders' of the culture to understand what their beliefs are and to respect them. I feel that the California miners are destroying certain Native American Tribe’s spiritual health as well as their physical surroundings. 

A final significant aspect of storytelling is about how important it is to remember the land and preserve it because that is how the natives will be able to remember the stories and the tourists will learn about it. Momaday illustrates this aspect by writing, 'Once in his life a man ought to concentrate his mind upon the remembered earth, I believe' (83). He goes on to say that the person needs to look at the land in different ways and speculate about it in order to understand it. 

All of these aspects pulled together into the main theme of storytelling show how important it is for stories to remain a part of the 'sacred places' that American tourists travel around. Stories need to keep circulating between American tourists and Native Americans in order to keep the tradition of legends and customs alive.
