TBS983Spr09_WC – Supplementary Information, Main Assignment.
The objective of the major assignment for TBS983 is to assist students to develop a critical approach to the use of economic/business literature, by undertaking a critical review of assigned articles in one of the principal topic areas covered by the subject. The notes below outline the requirements of the assignment and further information is provided on the class WebCT site.
1．Critical Review.The review of each paper is to be approximately 900 words.
2．Comparison.A brief comparison of the two papers must be done, which identifies which paper has advanced the most logical and convincing argument, and why you think so. The comparison should be approached from the hypothetical position that these are the only two sources of evidence available on the topic, and that a conclusion in regard to the topic must rest on the relative strengths of the two papers. Approximate length – 700 words.
3．Annotated bibliography of other sources. At least four (4) other research papers sourced from the Library’s academic databases must be identified, which could provide supporting evidence or argument to either side of the argument. Students must write short abstracts for each of the 4 (or more) research papers, (approximately 150 words each) summarising their content and argument and identifying how they would support the argument of one or other of the assigned articles. This annotated bibliography should be attached as Appendix 1. The abstracts in the annotated bibliography must not simply be copied from the research papers’ published abstracts. Copies of the original published abstracts for each of the 4 new articles must be attached as Appendix 2.
