A marketing plan is a document that summarises what the marketer has learned about the marketplace and
indicates how the company should achieve its marketing objectives.
This project has several objectives: 1) to provide students with an opportunity to apply the knowledge
acquired in the subject, 2) to extend the communication skills and their ability to work in team situations, 3) to
encourage their creative skills and, 4) to develop the students research, written and oral presentation skills.
Details of the client company will be explained in lectures and made available on Blackboard. The marketing
plan checklist on the next page will also be made available on blackboard.
Scenario: the students’ group has have been employed by a client company to prepare a marketing plan for
their product. This will involve analysing the market the company is, or could, operate in and develop a plan
using the marketing mix that your client could use in marketing their product.
Topic list:
1). Alcoholic Ice cream: Your client is a small manufacturing company that specialises in gourmet ice

cream. It sells in small take home packs through specialist food stores. It has recently developed a technique
for infusing alcoholic beverages into a natural ice cream. The ice cream is manufactured in such a way that
the alcohol molecule is stabilized which prevents it from interacting with the ice crystals and milk proteins
found in ice cream. For us lay people what that means is that real liquors can be combined with ice cream to
create a frozen solid ice cream that will maintain its taste and texture for up to a year. The company has asked

2) Tabletop surface computer: Your client has just picked up the Queensland distribution rights for the new
tabletop surface computer. This machine is an interactive touch screen computer that is mounted into a table
top. It has several advantages over a normal touch screen computer. A video of a news item demonstrating
the concept is posted on Blackboard. While it has been developed for commercial situations at the moment a
home version is underway. The company has asked your group to produce a marketing plan the guide the

3) Disappearing Car Door: Your client has taken on the Australian agency for Jatech Car doors. This is an
aftermarket modification that can be fitted to most cars. The difference with the Jatech door is that it rotates
under the car leaving the door space completely open rather than the door being hinged on the front edge as in
