Individual Quantitative Analysis Report (20%):

Using the case study posted on Blackboard “Music on Apple iPod “complete a number of exercises related to conducting quantitative research as well as using SPSS. This assignment will require you to perform a variety of uni-variate and bi-variate analysis techniques.  You will not be required to undertake regression analysis or tests for underlying dimensions. Files containing the research background, questionnaire and SPSS data set can be found on Blackboard under ‘Assessment’. You are required to compile a report that includes:
An evaluation of the research objectives, hypotheses and methods employed
Descriptive statistics for key variables
Appropriate analysis to address each of the hypotheses stated
Overall discussion of your findings

Your answers to these exercises will need to be documented in summary note form. SPSS output must be provided for the relevant activities.  A soft copy of your analysis is to be submitted via Turnitin in Blackboard.

 It seems as though these days everybody is moving through life with their own personal soundtrack. From the daily commuter travelling to work on the train, to the fitness fanatic at the gym, more and more people are being hit by the iPod phenomenon. The iPod has become Apple’s best selling product, bringing in a third of revenues for 2004. This small piece of technological revolution is miles ahead of the competition with a 90 percent market share in the portable audio market (Alpert, 2005). The iPod is quickly becoming a symbol of the times. In many ways, the digital music player is to this decade what the Sony Walkman was to the 1980s. The increasing usage of portable audio players such as the iPod in today’s environment sparks the question, where do these people source their music from? Is the music legal or illegal?
 What are the legalities surrounding the iPod phenomenon? Where there is so much music encompassed within a single iPod there had to have been a formatting of the music files in a form that is easily pirated. This activity is illegal and of great financial cost to the music industry.
