I have started to understand the value of an MBA at his point of my career. My education and professional experience have provided me with an excellent introduction to the business world. Attaining an MBA is a logical and major step for me in preparing for a bright and successful managerial career.
My short-team career aspiration is to return to Global Sources as a senior manager or, alternatively, to become an executive in a big international company where I can plan a leadership role in both technological innovation and organizational change. This goal is grounded on two realities that I have witnessed while working for Global Sources. Firstly, technological innovation plays a critical role in shaping today’s business world. It makes a company’s products stand out in the increasingly competitive global market and creates new markets for the company to embrace. True innovation is an essential means for a company to sustain its competitive advantage. Secondly, making right organizational decisions to adapt to changes is equally essential for a company to survive and succeed in the global market. The economic globalization since the mid-1990s presents various challenges to enterprises doing business internationally. Besides intense competition, high customer expectation and complexities of varied cultures, laws and market conditions across the globe, these companies have to tackle constant changes in market trends and business environment through strategic decisions and organizational adjustments. I hope to gain from MGSM’s MBA program heightened insight into an executive’s viewpoints in today’s corporate environment. I have already gained exposure to many aspects of the business organism and understand how important it is to align strategic decisions at the executive level with tactical execution at the business unit level. The MBA will strengthen my understanding of this dynamic and provided me with broadened exposure to the intricacies of decision making.
My ultimate goal is to run my own international media company based in a dynamic city in China. With its accession into the WTO and the bidding success for the 2008 Olympics, China is bound to offer more opportunities for individuals wishing to open cross-border businesses. My company would produce and supply TV programs, websites, magazines and CD-ROMs worldwide on China’s fashion and digital technology developments so as to build the image of a “young China”, breaking the traditional view of China as an old, conservative and mysterious country. My learning experience with the MBA program will hopefully help my company achieve high profits and reputation.
Such aspirations require both the experience I already possess and the education I wish to gain from an MBA program. My past training, however, has not prepared me to deal with the broad strategic issues faced by executives. I need concentrated general management education and leadership development to help me effect a transition from a training professional to visionary business leader.
