The two internships help me know more about Journalism as a profession and the requirements needed to be a journalist

Apart from academic ability, I know internships can give me some first-hand experiences, for Journalism and Communication is born to be interpersonal and social. An elder sister in my department encouraged me a lot. She used her brilliant scores and capability to fulfill her dream of being a war correspondent in Israeli. This tells me that no matter how hard or fantastic it is, as long as I keep going, I will reach the zenith of my dream. Firmly believing in that, I started taking internships. During my first internship, I was an editor of the Xiamen Career. My work included topic selection, interviews, report composition, reviewing, typesetting, even outgoing and publishing. After a period, I took charge of articles about exclusive interview which was always large-scale and time-consuming. But I really appreciate this experience especially because I got to know many celebrities in my university. After that, I started my second internship in CBN Weekly. Different from other journals, CBN Weekly emphasized a lot on proficiency in knowledge, critical thinking and writing. In order to finish one article, I had to search for data or go for face-to-face interviews. Therefore, I became an expert in that area after it was finished. From this four-month experience, I learn that professionalism is so significant to be a star in this field. Journalists need to acquire good thinking habit to deepen their spirit depth; and broad reading is the only way to achieve it.

My personalities add to my advantages in becoming a journalist

I am outgoing and positive, and extremely clinging to what is right and should be done seriously. Also, I like to work in a team as a responsible person who never shirks responsibility. Once, I took part in the “Supporting Plans for Students’ Academically and Technologically Innovative Actions” in XX University. There, I worked with my team to finish an academic paper—How should traditional media group be transformed in the age of new media—case study and analysis based on WSJ and NYT—with more than 10 thousand words, in which I took a unique perspective to analyze strategies facing confliction from new media in two big and serious newspapers in U.S., Wall Street Journal and New York Times. By using theories like Media Economics and Porter’s five forces model, I explained how those data combine and what they show to us. My opinions won the consensus of all my team members and they all help me towards my way. Finally this paper received high commendation from my professors and I realized more of the importance of teamwork.

All in all, I am sure I have the qualifications and potentials of being a good student in Ma in Journalism in University of Hong Kong. If I am admitted to your esteemed university, I will spare no efforts to fulfill my dream as a journalist.
