Conclusion


By gate (1999) has put it that complexity reflects the quality of the structures used in thecommunication, in terms of the number of words clustered within structures, and the extent towhich structures themselves are clustered together. This indicates that complexity of languageproduction should be attached as much importance as other aspects of language productionsuch as accuracy and fluency by language learners. However, the present situation of secondlanguage writing in China suggests that the complexity of writing production of most Chineselearners keep at a relatively low level which is also proved in the present study. What's more,the criteria for testing the complexity of writing been neglected in the present test in chinawhich only covers accuracy and fluency, so it is necessary to make complexity as a crucialsyntactic criteria in writing tests.
In the present study, the author tentatively investigates the verb patterns in task-basedwriting production of English learners.
