Chapter Four Data Analysis and Discussion


4.1 The Discussion of the Questionnaire
For item l-8, most students of both classes are not interested in memorizing wordsvocabulary lessons. They do not like traditional vocabulary learning method.For item9-16, most students of EC and CC are faced with the heavy burden ofvocabulary learning, and they feel it is boring and they do not have confidence in enlargingvocabulary size. They all think that it is very necessary for English learners to master a greatnumber of words in high schools. But they do not know how to do. And at the same time,compared with grammar and pronunciation learning, students have found that vocabularylearning is more difficult. It is a phenomenon that students are hard to remember what theyhave learned. But too many new words are waiting for them every day.For item 17-22, we can know that in English learning process, most students of twoclasses received knowledge passively and never answer any questions positively. Even somestudents never read English dialogues and perform dialogues in the textbook.For item 23-26, many students of both classes don't make out an effective vocabularylearning plan or set a learning goal, so they sometimes don't know how to learn. The studentsof both classes seldom complete English exercise and homework positively.Survey results show that the two classes are at the same line before the experiment. It ensuresthe accuracy of the experiment.

Conclusion


Narrative approach arouses students’ interests. It makes students easier to learnvocabulary, for it adopts using stories to teach vocabulary instead of teaching the new wordsin the word list. The stories designed by teacher are easier to understand than the new wordsin the textbook. And the contents of stories are related to students' life and study. Studentsbecome relax when they are talking about familiar things. The atmosphere in class becomesrelaxing and pleasant. Students’ intelligence working can reach the top in this atmosphere. Sothe approach can adjust students' affection and plays an important part in students' intelligenceactivities. As we know, vocabulary learning is memory work. When students are in a good mood,their thinking becomes broad and active. They can recite the new words easily. The learningresults are better than before.
