By analyzing and researching the two English translations of the character of Jia Yucun, the author found that Yang Xiangyi and Hawkes have different focuses, different translation strategies, different translation techniques and different translation methods. It is hoped that this will help researchers to understand the character and the translators‟ translations, to understand the translation styles of the two translators and to explore the practical methods of translation in the face of literary texts, and also to help it is also hoped that it will contribute to the translation and promotion of Chinese literature. These are the questions that this paper will answer.

Chapter Two Literature Review

2.1 Previous Studies on Socio-translation

Studies Studies abroad: in 1972, at the Third International Conference on Applied Linguistics in Copenhagen, James Holmes gave a keynote address entitled “The Names and Nature of Translation Studies”. According to Holmes, “this scope of research is closely related to Sociology and has the potential to lead to the emergence of a social translation science”. This paper is the first brief explanation of “socio-translation studies” and “sociology of translation” in academic circles. This interpretation by Holmes has attracted the attention of many scholars in the Western translation field and opened up a new perspective for the social study of translation.

After that, a group of representative Western sociological theories were used to study translation activities, such as the Social Systems Theory proposed by German sociologist Niklas Luhmann with the goal of establishing a universal theory of society, the social practice theory of French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu, and the Actor-network Theory of French sociologists Bruno Latour and Mike Callon.

In 1998, Daniel Simeoni (1998) was the first to discuss the role of translator‟s abitus in the translation process in his article The Pivotal Status of Translator’s Habitus. Within the framework of Bourdieu‟s sociological theory, Simeoni made the assertion about the social and professional habits of people. The study of translator‟s habitus occupies an important place in translation studies. In her article The Sociology of Bourdieu and the Construction of the “Object” in Translation and Interpreting Studies, Moria Inghilleri (2005: 125-145) introduces Bourdieu‟s sociological theory and its relevance to translation studies, and discusses the core concepts of Bourdieu‟s sociological theory, namely the article discusses the core concepts of Bourdieu‟s sociological theory - habitus, field and capital. Finally, the article also discusses the relationship between Bourdieu‟s sociological theory and other sociological theories, focusing on its connection with Latour‟s and Luhmann‟s sociological theories, which provides a direction for the sociological study of translation work.

2.2 Previous Studies on English Version of Hongloumeng
