1.2 Importance and necessity of the study
As already mentioned, a new higher vocational educational model in businessEnglish negotiation teaching is needed and this new model requires a differentteaching theory that can guide the current teaching. CL theory is one of the mostwidely applied teaching theories. It originates in America in 60-70s of 20th centuryand later was adopted widely all over the world in primary schools, middle schoolsand colleges, etc. Nowadays it has been practiced and investigated "in everyimaginable subject, such as reading, arithmetic, the acquisition of a second language,needs of non-intellectual quality and it needs careful studies and urgent solutions toimprove HVTC learners' second language acquisition. If CL here is proved to behelpful in improving business negotiation learning and teaching in HVTC context, CLwill be encouraged and publicized so as to facilitate vocational technical educationdevelopment.
1.3 Objectives of the study
This study is designed to investigate the effectiveness of applying CL toBusiness English Negotiation class. It aims to find out what the students' attitudestowards CL are before and after implementing CL and obtain an understandingwhether CL can enhance their business English negotiation achievements and improvetheir negotiation abilities or not.
1.4 Organization of the thesis
The thesis consists of five chapters and arranges as follows:Chapter One is a general description of the whole thesis, which discusses thebackground, importance and necessity of this study and the organization of this thesis.Chapter Two concerns three issues, business negotiation, cooperative learningand relevant studies.Chapter Three puts forward research questions and presents details of subjectsand instruments of this study. It also describes data collection and analysis procedures.Chapter Four presents detailed information on the results of the questionnaires,classroom observations, oral English tests in pre-test and post-test and interviews.Chapter Five includes the major findings of this experimental study, itspedagogical implications, points out its limitations and offers suggestions for furtherresearch.
