方法论角度---Methodological Perspectives:


An interpretivist (Saunders et al, 2007; Bryman and Bell, 2007) methodology will be applied when undertaking the research proposal. An interpretivist methodology has been selected due the complexity of human behaviour and motivational, both of which can be affected by internal and external factors. The research proposal will endeavour to identify issues raised by a broad cross section of employees, from senior management down to receptionists.

The Organisation’s expectations in relation to the research proposal will be determined by the management team. Primary and secondary data (Saunders et al, 2007) will be utilised for the purpose of the research.
A pilot study will be undertaken in order to test the interview checklist (Saunders et al, 2007), and identify questions that may make the interviewees uneasy (Bryman and Bell, 2007). However, the pilot study will not be conducted on the research population but on employees in similar roles elsewhere in the Organisation (Morris, 1996). Bryman and Bell (2007, p. 274) assert that “the reason for this is that , if you are seeking to employ probability sampling, the selecting-out of a number of members of the population or sample may affect the representativeness of any subsequent sample”. The pilot study will be conducted using semi-structured interviews (Miles and Huberman, 1994) as a qualitative approach is desired (Locke et al, 2000). Semi-structured interviews afford a framework in which to operate, whilst at the same time allowing flexibility for issues that are more significant to some individuals, to be investigated and probed more thoroughly. As well as having the ability to enthuse the interviewers (Bryman and Bell, 2007), the pilot study will provide data that can identify potential problems, which will then be utilised to influence the design of the full-scale research study.

The pilot study (Saunders et al, 2007), will be undertaken on employees working in the Scottish and South East England regions of the Organisation. Employees in these regions are representative (Bryman and Bell, 2007) of those identified for the full-scale research study. The stratified random sampling (Bryman and Bell, 2007) method will be used to select the employees for the pilot study.
