Abstract
Development has been the core issue concerned in economic circles, the traditional development model of the simple pursuit of growth has caused serious resource depletion and environmental pollution, and in this matter old industrial bases of Northeast China are particularly prominent. In the background of actively promoting sustainable development and the construction of a conservation society, the correct measure of the economic growth impacts of old industrial bases of Northeast China on environmental quality, is of great theoretical and practical significance. Environmental Kuznets curve as the best way to measure the economic development to affect the environmental quality has become the choice for research in this field. Therefore, this dissertation based on the validation of the Environmental Kuznets Curve in old industrial bases of Northeast China, hopes to determine the existence of inverted U-shaped relationship between economic development and environmental quality in old industrial bases of Northeast China.
Since Grossman and Krueger in the empirical study summarized the environmental Kuznets curve, the foreign research in theoretical, empirical aspects and methods have made great progress, the other hand, the domestic studies more focused on the empirical analysis, and are the simple application of the initial studies abroad. For this reason, this is not only a succession of first method and the most important is to achieve the two breakthroughs in theory and method in the domestic research in this field: In theory, this dissertation first introduced the environmental Kuznets theory based on the supply and demand balance in micro-Economics; in method, this dissertation for the first time long-term used the long-term trend indicators of economic growth, but also excluded the higher items of income.
Panel data not only conforms to the requirements of the Environmental Kuznets theory, but also has the advantages to expand the sample size and improve the effectiveness of estimates. Therefore, it becomes the first choice for this model set. Under the guidance of the new theory, in the application of new methods and the most appropriate model set, this dissertation accurately estimated the results of the economic growth in old industrial bases of Northeast China to environmental quality, that the relationship between industrial wastewater emissions and per capita GDP is compliance with environmental Kuznets inverted U-shaped curve, and industrial waste gas emissions and industrial solid waste production were positively related with economic growth.
Finally, the different methods, different models and conclusion under different environmental indicators were compared and analyzed, and acquired more accurate conclusions, it also identified the modeling features of a variety of methods, models and environmental indicators for future Reference. All in all, the paper suggested that the environmental situation in old industrial bases of Northeast China is very serious, must be taken seriously enough.
