Abstract

Nowadays, in Malaysia, the concept of “1 Malaysia” is been highly introduced to people in every social class, especially in Malaysian secondary schools. Teachers are obligate to instill this moral value—ethnic harmony to students, meanwhile, by practicing this moral value, it could make positive effect on English language learning among different races of students. It is well known that English education has a long history in Malaysia education system; it is believed to be one of a common language that Malaysian students have to study in school. This research studies how ‘1 Malaysia’ concept would be employed in fostering the moral value of racial harmony into multi-cultural based English classroom, as well as identifies the significance of ‘1 Malaysia’ concept in secondary school education circumstances, and how it will benefit students in English language learning. This paper deals with a question on how English education can fit into the multicultural society and the implication of Malaysian English education will be examined. The purpose of the study is to examine the role and significance of “1 Malaysia” concept in Malaysian English language classroom from a perspective of a TESL student of China. This paper will be conducted by collecting data from a variety of library resources, information will be gathered from selected journals, books and newspapers. The data will be summarized and discussed regarding to this topic.

Introduction
The concept of “One Malaysia” has been highly addressed by the current Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak. The citizen of Malaysian should be aware of the importance of racial unity in Malaysian community. Whereas, the separation relationship among each race of students in secondary school is an existing problem, which runs in the opposite direction from the value of “One Malaysia” concept of racial unity and solidarity. It is necessary to stress and reinforce the concept of racial harmony among each race.
