Marking Criteria 

 Whether the abstract reflects main arguments and identifies the conclusion reached; whether the structure and presentation enhances the logic, coherence and flow of your arguments and has sound paragraph construction; whether arguments raised are relevant in answering the question; whether appropriate academic writing style, English expression, grammar and sentence construction are used; whether the length of the essay meets requirements, not being excessive or insufficient; whether the Harvard Method of referencing is used correctly; and whether adequate research is demonstrated.
Length  The essay should be 2500 words (plus or minus 250) words. The word limit includes the abstract which should be 250 words. The word limit does not include the reference list. Anything in excess of this word limit will not be read.

Style and format  
1. Students must include a signed Faculty of Commerce cover sheet. Omission of a cover sheet will not meet academic requirements of the essay.
2. The essay should include an abstract at the beginning. This gives an overview of your key arguments, and your conclusion. Note: it is not an introduction or "road map" of the structure of your essay.
3. Essays must be word processed using 12 point font, double line spaced, and have a 3cm left and right hand margin.
4. Headings are permitted but are not mandatory.
5. Essays must be properly referenced in the Harvard style, following the UOW library referencing guidelines. Transgressions from proper referencing will be penalised.
6. You are required to adhere to the UOW's plagiarism / acknowledgement practice policy, and the non-discriminatory language policy.
7. It is expected that there are a minimum of 12 references, 6 or more references must come from academic journals, for example Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal; Accounting Organizations and Society, Accounting Forum, Critical Perspectives on Accounting or similar. Six or more references can be from other sources such as, but not restricted to the popular financial press.

Assessment submission  Note: The essay is due the Monday of week 9, 3rd May 2010. It is to be handed in during the scheduled lecture time, either the morning or evening lecture that day. No staff can consult on the essay topic after Friday 30th April. All late penalties if incurred will be calculated from Monday 3rd May.
Students at Shoalhaven, Bega, Batemans Bay, Moss Vale and Loftus should hand their essay in to their tutor in their scheduled tutorial time.
A Faculty of Commerce assignment cover sheet should be attached to each piece of written assessment. Students should sign the coversheet where applicable and complete and retain the receipted section as proof of submission. It is your responsibility to collect a signed receipt at the time of submission.
Assessment return  Essays will be returned to students in their enrolled tutorial class in week 12 of session.
