Once the junior high school students’ interest is aroused, it is a great help to the students,they will learn English actively and initiatively, the students’ learning enthusiasm and initiative will bemotivated. However, many studies show that English learning interest plays important roles in the processof English learning, as long as the students learn with interest, they will be happier to learn and acquire theknowledge easier, that is the essence. As a matter of fact, the topic about the cultivation of learning interesthas been the concern of many researchers but it has a long way to go. Although there are many studies onthe cultivation of learning interest, but there are few methods to cultivate the students’ interest in juniorhigh school.

Chapter Two Literature Review

This chapter is elaborated from brief review of studies on English learning interest and the relevanttheories concerning interest and motivation and pointed out that English learning interest plays animportant role in English learning and teaching.

2.1 Relationship between Learning Interest and Motivation
Keller identifies interest as one of the main elements of motivation (1987). The students in junior highschool are naturally curious, active and energetic, so interest is a necessary and efficient mean to arousetheir motivation. Their motivation will be enhanced if they are interested in something.It is known that interest is the best teacher. Interest is a crucial important role of the motivation oflearning and working, any learning of courses need supporting by learning interest. Hong Liru pointed out:if the students are interested in something, they will work hard, enjoy learning, research and explorecontinuously (1998). Zhang Xiaohong pointed out: if the students have interest, they will have learningmotivation and learn it actively, in this way the students will conquer difficulties and make progress inEnglish learning (2003). In English learning, if the students have interest in English learning, it willmotivate the students to learn the words, sentences, dialogues, grammatical rules and English reading, italso can make the students focus on the English class.
According to the research, the students’ learning effect depends on the following factors, learning time,learning motivation and learning method, and the above factors are influenced by interest (Yan Guocai,2006). In the first place, if the students are interested in English learning, they will spend a lot of time inlearning, and if they are not interested in English learning, they will not spend much time to learn.Moreover, interest can be turned into motivation, the learning interest is enhanced, the learning motivationwill be stronger.
