Conclusion


The current study is primarily a tentative analysis of hedges within the framework of CP and PP, thefurther study of hedges in English cover letters could be conducted within other theoretical framework,such as Adaptation Theory, Face Theory and so on.The present study is conducted mainly from the pragmatic perspective. It may be significant equally ifhedges are investigated and compared from the cross cultural perspective. Cultural ingredient, such asvalues, belief, religion, etc. may play important role in the choice of hedges. Hopefully, this thesis can be ofsome use in the writing of English cover letters.
This chapter is the conclusion part, which presents the major findings, implications, limitations andprospect for further research. By contrastive analysis, the present study can enrich future researches ofhedges. Moreover, the research is illustrative in achieving desired communication between cover letterwriters and cover letter viewers. Besides, the pragmatic analysis of hedges in ECL by ENS and ECL byChinese EFL learners is beneficial to the improvement of the communicative strategies while applying forjobs. Although the present study bears indispensible significance, it is only a tentative research on thecontrastive and pragmatic analysis of hedges between two languages, thus, dimensional and deeperresearch are suggested to be conducted in the future study.
