Among all the skills,reading is undoubtedly the most significant one in our daily communication and almostall the examinations alike, which can be clearly seen from its absolutely dominantproportion in most influential examinations such as world-famous examinations lELTSand TOEFL, Chinese well-known tests CET, TEM and NETEM, etc, with the readingpercentage of the latter accounting for 35%, 40% and 40% respectively. Because of itsgreat importance, designing the good reading comprehension part is indispensible andessential to guaranteeing the successful testing. In recent years, language teachers as wellas researchers and testers have put a great deal of time and energy and made great effortsto improve reading language tests.The International English Language Testing System (lELTS), is designed to assessthe language ability of candidates who is to complete their secondary education and needto study or work where English is the language of communication. It is jointly managedby the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations (Cambridge ESOL), BritishCouncil and the international Development Program of Australian Universities andColleges (IDP). lELTS includes two versions: lELTS(G) and lELTS(A) , which meansGeneral Training versions of lELTS and Academic versions of lELTS respectively. Eachversion covers the four languages skills: listening, reading, writing and speaking. Allcandidates take the same Listening and Speaking Modules. There is a choice betweenAcademic lELTS test and General lELTS test Training in the Reading and WritingModules. The tests are designed to cover the full range of ability from non-user to expertuser.
National Entrance Test of English for MA/MS (NETEM), as a high-stake,large-scale, nation-wide educational socialized test in China, is one of the compulsoryexaminations which is mainly intended to provide information of test takers(Non-Englishmajor) for universities which will enroll the postgraduate candidates. NETEM aims to measure whether the test takers have the required necessary English language knowledgeand expected language application ability for the postgraduate study. Assumablyuniversities and institutions can infer from the test scores whether the test takers have theneeded English language ability to meet the need and research at the postgraduateeducation stage in the future. Currently , an increasingly large number of people, bothcollege students and social people, choose to go on their postgraduate study course forsome reason. Consequently, being a compulsory examination, NETEM is becoming moreand more important.
