摘要:The occurrences of these above phenomena prove the significance and necessity of carryingon the research of note-taking strategy. Therefore, educational psychologists began to researchon it systematically since 1970s.
Conclusion
The debates on note-taking have emerged since C. C. Crawford began his studies in the1920s. And the debates concentrated on whether note-taking has positive effect on students’listening performance. My conclusion is a positive effect of note-taking on college listeningcomprehension test. Apart from the support of the data analysis result, it can also be explained inthe aspect of memory mechanism and listening process. In chapter two, Wood’s (1993) model onthe memory process is presented: encoding allows information from the outside world to reachour senses and transfers it into a form that can be stored, then storage processing entails theprocess of maintaining information over periods of time, and finally retrieval processing whichmeans bringing stored material to mind and using the stored information. Di Vesta and Gray(1972) propose the model of note-taking function as encoding function and external storagefunction. The encoding function hypothesis suggests that taking notes facilitates informationprocessing, while the external storage function hypothesis on the other hand suggests that thereview of notes stored in a written form facilitates performance. A fundamental feature oflistening is that it is transient and the process of listening has close relationship with workingmemory in that working memory capacity limits information extraction.
