B. Archetypes of “Colored” People   
The  archetypes  associated  with  the  colored  people  such  as  with  the  black Africans  are  not  always  negative.  During  the  antiquity  before  Christianity,  blackness is  associated  with  freedom,  justice  and  wisdom.  With  the  expansion  of  imperialism, black Africans are considered to be mysterious and evil. And skin color becomes one of  the  most  important  elements  which  categorize  human  beings.  Archetypes  of “colored people” are formed and enforced in the canonical literary works. The  canonical  literature  works  convey  an  image  of  half  child  and  half  savage about  the  indigenous  people  since  the  work  of  Shakespeare  when  England  began  its expansion  on  the  sea.  Probably  the  most  famous  character  is  Prospero’s  dark,  earthy slave  Caliban  in  The  Tempest,  which  was  written  probably  in  1610–1611.   The English  colonial  expansion  influences  this  work  a  lot  and  is  even  one  of  its  main themes.  21Each  character,  from  Gonzalo  to  Stephano  is  thinking  about  the  question that  the  island  should  be  ruled  if  he  were  the  ruler  of  the  island.  The  name  of Prospero’s  slave  Caliban  derives  from  the  word  “Cannibal.”  He  represents  the indigenous people of the island and is described as half child and half savage. 21 On the one hand, Caliban is frequently referred to as a monster in the play, since he  is  the  son  of  the  dead  Sycorax,  a  dead  witch.  He  appears  to  be  the  only  one  who lives  on  the  island  before  Prospero  and  his  daughter  come  here.  He  claims  that Prospero stole the island from Prospero when he speaks to Prospero for the first time.  He  is  controlled  by  Prospero  with  Prospero’s  knowledge  and  magic.  However,  He desires  to  rule  the  island  and  resists  Prospero’  rule  over  him.  He  bows  only  before Prospero’s intimidation. There is also a contrast between Caliban and Ferdinand when both  of  them  are  interested  in  Miranda.  Ferdinand  is  flirting  with  Miranda  and planning to marry her, while Caliban attempts to rape her.
