For example, ‘NATO’(no action, talk only), ‘GASP’(Group against smoker’s pollution), ‘poop’ comes from ‘nincompoop’, ‘nuke’ refers to ‘nuclear weapon’, ‘no-no’(taboo), ‘dum-dum’ (very general),‘huggy-huggy’ (intimate) . 2.2. Oral Language
Many slang words utilize the euphony of pronunciation in order to be easily understood and remembered. Particularly, many slang words adopt the approach of rhyme which makes the effect of language more expressive, humorous. The most commonly-used formations of rhyme are as follows.
The first kind of rhyme is alliteration. For example, ‘tick-tack’(a ticking or tapping beat like that of a clock or watch), ‘flip-flop’(a type of open shoe held on by the toes and loose on the back),‘tip-top’(of the highest quality).
Another kind of rhyme is the end rhyme such as ‘cop-shop’(police office), funny-money (the substitute of money), fender-bender (petty matter), half-inch (pinch), ‘razzle-dazzle’(be lost in), ‘hurry-scurry’(in a flurry), ‘huity-toity’ (high and mighty).
As for the beginner, the usage of rhyme can make the people feel that the language is so lively rhyme and sweet-sounding. At the same time, these formations of slang words could be easily remembered and spoken, which is helpful to the widespread circulation and smooth communication of language.

These remarks sum up the paradox of slang very well: “slang is the foe and the friend of the English language” (Partridge.21).
