摘要:英语作为一种国际语言,在科学技术交流,文化交流中发挥了至关重要的作用。英语无疑是帮助中国人走向世界,高中英语教学是通向世界领先地位的关键。
e is the question that what the teachers andstudents at senior high schools think of the classroom activities; the second is the question that how thecurrent situation of implementing English classroom activities is at middle schools; and the third one is thequestion that what the major problems are in the implementation of classroom activities in Englishteaching.
1.2 Research Significance 研究意义
In traditional classes, English class is mainly dominated by teachers. Students only sit there and listento the teachers, no matter whether they agree or disagree with the teachers’ saying. English is a foreignlanguage, which already make the students have no chance to use with people in their daily life. What’smore, because of the monotonous teaching method, students even have no chance to participate in theirteaching and learning. If things continue in this way, students may form a bad habit to learn English.Bernard Shaw said, “What we want is to see the child in pursuit of knowledge, and not knowledge inpursuit of the child”. It is said that the class organized in an enjoyable atmosphere usually provides studentsmore than what the teachers have expected. It may make a silent learner if the teacher focuses onknowledge teaching only; while, it may make an active learner if the teacher pays much attention tostudents’ ability training. Classroom activity is a good way to strengthen students’ ability training. It is notthe idea of teacher-centered class but student-centered class, in which the students can have moreopportunities to express their opinions and communicate with each other in English. Shy students may feelmore relaxed in sharing their ideas and thoughts in activities. In a word, they can discover, construct andtransfer the knowledge in activities, which result can not be achieved in traditional classes.Classroom activities in second language will overcome the disorientation when contacting with a newlanguage. Classroom activities can help students develop a feeling for right and wrong in language use, tomaintain a sense of familiarity, and eventually to acquire the capacity to use the language creatively. Ineffective activities, the students will maintain positive attention and active participation.Classroom activities in second language will promote thought development in senior high schools.Language plays a key role in thought development. Study shows that progress in language ability willaccelerate thinking process greatly. In senior high schools the abilities like expressing, analyzing,generalizing, and inferring are to be further developed. English teaching in activity-based classrooms urgesstudents to do things in English. To complete an activity, students have to exchange ideas and negotiatemeanings. As a result, the ability of thinking in English is sure to get rapid improvement.Classroom activities can create a real-like world for students. All activities are designed as close aspossible to the real situations in daily life. Classroom activities have the potential to combine the learningand entertainment together. Besides, when students are engaged in the activities, like role-play, debate, theirthinking and oral English will be more fluent unconsciously.The goal of the investigation is not only to show the current situation of class teaching at middleschools, but also to arouse teachers’ attention on the skills and techniques of implementing class activitiesto activate the classroom atmosphere, to
